“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”
— Audre Lorde
The first thing I did was tell. Everybody. And I didn’t want to. Who wants to be the one po’ mouthing about being without a job in this economy? I didn’t. Me, New Age thinker, all about light and love and Divine order. I also knew that I couldn’t let “a good crisis go to waste” (the aptly named sermon delivered last Sunday). I got the message that now is the time to reach deep, into the “ingenuity” Obama spoke about in his first speech to the nation. What I know is that I belong to a people who make a way out of no way, a nation of creative thinkers and doers, a people who look past, over and through circumstance. So, I told everybody that I’d come in contact with for that past ten years. I’ve decided that I will not let circumstance define my life. I’m going to ride this thing hard and put it up wet.
This is the email I sent out:
I won’t make you read through “25 Things You Should Know About Me,” however there is one thing I need you to know, and that is that I was recently laid off my job. As a single mom of a one, you can imagine how difficult that was to hear. Difficult though it was, I am moving forward and continue to maintain a positive attitude, an abundance of hope and an unwavering belief in the promise of the future.
Of course I attached a resume as well and got quite a few responses and an interview. You never know do you?
Accept no one’s definition of your life. Define yourself.
‘Til next time– Keep it in the Light!
